Artist's Statement and Biography
Laurie J. Kalb
Always loving to create, using color and shape, I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. My career as an occupational therapist was chosen because of its close relationship to art and soul. As my family has grown I take comfort and refuge in my art world, now a part of every day, presently focusing on pastels, watercolor and mixed media. Influenced by the use of color and wonder of expression of Wolf Kahn, Richard Diebenkorn, Jasper Johns, Henri Matisse, Gary Komarin, Dannielle Mick, and Julie Friedman, I explore abstraction of landscape and life.
Expressing a moment and thought through line and color is fun, intense, and quite wonderful. Allowing the creative part of daily life to take over is all consuming and so rewarding. When others react with shared enthusiasm, well, it doesn't get better than that!
