Art has always been a great source of pleasure and intensity, from coloring books as a child, to large exploratory compositions in my mid-life. I use art in my profession as a pediatric occupational therapist, finding that the same intense focus and release of anxiety that I experience, is achieved by my students. The wonderment of creating, stepping back and feeling a sense of completion, of release, of attachment and sharing that experience with others who react to my work, is so much fun and so fulfilling. I get a sense of calm and exhileration in the process of immersing in art, and later seeing it hung.
As I see the life cycle from many angles, my work is also reflecting the ups and downs of the years I have lived. I remember the process of creating each and every single piece I have done. This unintentionally, yet reflectively, helps me document my life and it's cycles. Important moments and emotional memories from childhood, college and now my current life are an undercurrent of every piece.
